I had a dream...

That Obama was running in a race... a presidential race, mind you... but he was literally running. I did not see McCain however. I'm assuming he was far behind Obama on the track.

Scary indeed

Sep. 27th, 2008 | 11:44 am

I was watching the debate, and it occured to me that the one that eveyone is waiting to see is the VP debate. I'm finding it very scary that Palin has granted only 3 interviews since accepting the ticket. This is a woman who is very close to being President... her running mate will be the oldest President ever if elected. Those of us who remember the Reagan Administration will remember what THAT was like, especially towards the end. These are not the people I would trust with nuclear codes.

Normally I hate actors voicing in on politics, and I'm not really a fan of Matt Damon's stuff, but it's hard to argue with this:

Allah Had No Son

Today I found a Chick Comic, which for those who don't know, are religious tracts in comic form. I'm not religious, but I love comics, even ones with heavy handed Bible thumping tactics. Imagine my delight when I discovered a smattering of them free online (why not? They usually leave 'em lying around anyways). This one caught my eye, Allah Had No Son. I'm by now means an expert when it comes to the Muslim faith, but it is pretty well demonized in this comic. For the sake of simplicity, I've taken the pages that pretty well sum it up and presented them here:

See how easy it is to put down other faiths? Never mind the pagan roots of Christianity...

This is asking for trouble.

The Large Hadron Collider. an underground facility near the Swiss border, is attempting to recreate the Big Bang by colliding particles together.

Those of us who have watched many sci-fi movies and read many comic books will realize that this is indeed a recipe for disaster. To quote my favorite movie series, "When man falls into conflict with nature, monsters are born."

Never one to miss an opportunity, the fine folks at the BBC have launched an informational site, complete with a special radio episode of one of my favorite shows, Torchwood.

Well, I can always keep checking here.

Your Pals' Club

The Pals' Club was apparently a line of vitamins by Bristol-Myers. I don't have a lot of memories of them, but I do recall there was a line of soap and a tie-in with Captain Kangaroo at some point. The booklet was a premium of some kind as well. Primarily it was an activity book filled with simple games and tips for good citizenship.

I found my booklet in the Archive, and I had assumed that it was all the result of a fevered childhood. Luckily I was wrong, thanks to The Imaginary World website. If you're like me, you can waste lots of time looking at the things you had as a kid!

Thank you Hillary

I was going thru more junk, and I came across this:

Yep, that's a "letter" to me from one Hillary Rodham Clinton, circa 1995. Part of a project to submit colorful Christmas ornaments to the White House collection:

As I recall, the theme was "The 12 Days of Christmas", so I decided to be a counter culture rebel and attempted to make something along the lines of a pear shaped ornament featuring the colors and likeness of the Partridge Family. I thought I was being terribly clever, but it was probably so trippy and hideous that they buried it at the bottom of the tree. Or else they just put all of the crappy ones on the side they didn't photograph.

Rosie never looked better

Perusing my infinite supply of stuff, I came across this novelty:

Apparently it's an animated style Rosie O'Donnell in some kind of cross promotion for both Burger King and Nickelodeon. I'm not sure of the specifics, but it Rosie looks very unhappy... I think she was getting slimed or something. I think originally there was a "liquid within liquid" gimmick thing in there to simulate sliming, but now she's just standing there in piss-yellow water. It actually looks to me like she's trying a David Blaine stunt or something gone terribly awry. Quick, call the paramedics!
